Project Overview

We developed an eye-catching identity incorporating a logo that referenced an 'S', a swan and the twisted ribbon styling that is so commonly linked to cancer charities.

Background

In June 2014, Alan Hart, Lloyd Starley and Ollie Finch took on the challenge of travelling 140 miles from Stoke to Oxford in a swan pedalo to raise £3,446.09 for Kent-based charity, Pilgrims Hospices.

The 14 day event was held in memory of a close friend’s mother, Susan Hutton, who passed away in February of 2013 from pancreatic cancer, having been diagnosed in December 2012 and given just 9 months to live.

Sadly, just 2 months later she lost her battle, leaving behind husband Jeff, children Jamie, Matthew, Katie and Alex, grandchildren Finley, Teigan, Kacey and the at-the-time unborn George.

Towards the end of her life, Sue and her family received outstanding help and support from staff and community nurses at Pilgrims Hospices, who provide palliative care to anyone diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses.

Together with the very best in medical care Pilgrims Hospices also provide practical and emotional support to carers and family members. Offering their services free of charge means that they depend upon donations from the local community.

Around £20 an hour is needed to cover all the costs ensuring a nurse can provide care where it’s needed be it on the ward, in the day hospice, in a patient’s home or at a community outreach group.

Overview

We developed an eye-catching identity for the event incorporating a logo that referenced an ‘S’, a swan and the twisted ribbon styling that is so commonly linked to cancer charities.

The bold colour palette was used to not only be eye-catching and cut through the plethora of other charity appeals but to reference the colour of the water the boys would see so much of on their journey.

A customised handwritten typeface completed the look for what was an unmistakable identity that we thoroughly enjoyed working on.
