Background
The 14 day event was held in memory of a close friend’s mother, Susan Hutton, who passed away in February of 2013 from pancreatic cancer, having been diagnosed in December 2012 and given just 9 months to live.
Sadly, just 2 months later she lost her battle, leaving behind husband Jeff, children Jamie, Matthew, Katie and Alex, grandchildren Finley, Teigan, Kacey and the at-the-time unborn George.
Towards the end of her life, Sue and her family received outstanding help and support from staff and community nurses at Pilgrims Hospices, who provide palliative care to anyone diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses.
Together with the very best in medical care Pilgrims Hospices also provide practical and emotional support to carers and family members. Offering their services free of charge means that they depend upon donations from the local community.
Around £20 an hour is needed to cover all the costs ensuring a nurse can provide care where it’s needed be it on the ward, in the day hospice, in a patient’s home or at a community outreach group.
